HIV/AIDS Education and Social Support
HIV/AIDS is one of the gravest epidemics confronting both the world, and in particular, sub-Sahara Africa. Women and children continue to be most vulnerable.
A survey released in October, 2004 by Cameroon's health ministry, indicates that
women showed an HIV infection rate of 6.7 percent, whereas men were at 4.1 percent. It is for this reason, that WOPA's primary target for our fight against poverty and AIDS is among women and children.
WOPA uses songs, educational talks, and videos to educate and sensitise this vulnerable group. Additionally, through our educational program and social support, we care for affected and infected individuals.

Prevention of Trafficking in Young Girls : Return and Reintegration
Every year since 2003, WOPA organises conferences to bring attention on the issues of violence against women and the exploitation of children.

Educational Support
WOPA develops opportunities for orphans and poor children to continue with their education through scholarships and social support. By promoting the continued education of young girls, we hope to empower them to become self-sufficient and valuable contributors to their communities.
As young girls, both in the rural and city areas are increasingly finding themselves condemned to delinquency, often dropping out of school, WOPA has developed a number of special programs to address the special needs of this population, both through our educational and training programs.
top Training
WOPA creates programs to provide vocational skills that boast ideas of income generating activities. We collaborate with professionals who work as volunteers to provide training, counseling and technical assistance.
Trainings are two fold:
Internships/Apprenticeships - WOPA provides 6 months to 2 year placements for girls who want to learn sewing, hairdressing, computers etc. After completing the placement, WOPA assists the girls in looking for a job or provides material assistance to help them establish a business.
Skill Building - Through our work with various local women's groups, we offer a number of vocational trainings. For example, through the use of volunteers and consultants, we offer workshops on soap making, tie and dye of clothe, rubbing oil, weaving, sewing, catering, management and leadership skills. If interested in volunteering, please leave your contact information with the details of your proposal.

Connecting Women
WOPA organises women in rural areas by creating common initiative groups (CIG) that allow for the women to have a means of collectively solving their own problems to better defend their interests.
Further, WOPA financially and materially supports these women's groups who are committed to this collective spirit of upliftment.

Agricultural Production WOPA improves sustainable farming by distributing seeds and tools to women's groups in rural areas. Additionally, we promote animal breeding, fish smoking, and mushroom harvesting.
Our objective is to increase the consumption of protein, and provide education on the nutritional and financial value of mushrooms and protein rich animal products.

Assistance with Micro-Enterprising
The goal of this program is to help women start income generating activities that will assist them in feeding and clothing their children. While we offer a number of vocational training and health programs, many of the women we serve insist that the lack of financial resources is their most pressing problem. This is why we have created this program, to help finance business initiatives.
To date, only a few projects have been financed. With the generous support of individuals and businesses, we are hoping to increase the number of projects we finance.

Computer Literacy
This program has not yet started. It is our hope to open a computer center where students, children, and women from poor families can obtain access to new information and communication technologies.
We are currently looking for organisations to co-sponsor this initiative. If interested, please send us your contact information. Additionally, we are currently accepting donations of new or lightly used computers, as well as tutorial materials in French and English. We greatly appreciate any assistance you may provide.
